Giving Tree of Hope Volunteers

FirstLink is looking for volunteers to help with the Giving Tree of Hope in a few different areas.  November 22nd through December 17th – volunteers will be sitting at a table during mall hours at West Acres to hand out gift tags and collect gifts that are dropped off; different shifts are available.  December 17th is collection day at the Fargo Civic Center Centennial Hall.  We need help as all the gifts are gathered, sorted and organized on this day.  December 18th is distribution day at Centennial Hall.  Volunteers are needed all day to assist with handing out the gifts.


Family HealthCare is currently seeking mature, dependable, and caring individuals to welcome and assist patients, their families, and visitors entering the facility.  Volunteers answering questions, provide information and direct people to the clinic location they need, creating an atmosphere that is caring, yet efficient.

Manicure Volunteer

Home Appeal Adult Foster Care is in need of older adults and small groups (2-6) to give manicures to residents in the afternoon between 1pm-4pm on any day.

Support Group Facilitator

Alzheimer’s Association is looking for an individual to facilitate an existing support group for those caring for a person with younger-onset Alzheimer’s.  The person they care for is a loved one who is under 65 years of age and has dementia. The support group meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 6:30-800pm at 2631 12th Ave S, Fargo.

Reach & Rise Mentor

YMCA of Cass & Clay Counties is in need of individuals to be a therapeutic mentor for youth ages 6-17. We ask you meet with youth once a week for 1-3 hours for a year; during this time you will work on goals they have identified relating to relationships, self-esteem and/or communication.  You will receive 15 hours of training that will equip you with skills needed to mentor.  Volunteers must be at least 23 years of age, complete 15 hours of provided training, pass fingerprint/background check, and commit to 1 year.

Roof Repair Volunteers

Rebuilding Together Fargo-Moorhead Area is in need of individuals, older adults, or small and large groups (2-12) to help with roof repairs to homes.  These are elderly people, many are veterans and/or widows who live on a fixed income. They want to stay in their homes, but don’t have the money to fix the roof.  We are looking for both a house captain who has expertise in this area and people willing to serve on a crew.  You are also needed if you don’t have this skill set as there are needs regarding site cleanup.

Sheltering Churches Volunteers

The local shelters and churches need assistance to provide overflow shelter for people who are experiencing homelessness in our community.  Volunteers are needed for setting up, greeting, overnight staffing, cleaning up and transportation of supplies and people.

Part-time Warehouse Assistant Volunteer

HERO, Healthcare Equipment Recycling Organization is in need of individuals, possibly older adults to clean, inspect, repair incoming healthcare supply inventory, vacuum, sweep and organize.  Requires ability to lift up to 50lbs.  The full job description can be found on our website: HERO is open Monday through Friday 9am-5pm.

Customer Service Volunteer

HERO, Healthcare Equipment Recycling Organization is in need of individuals and older adults to help assist those in need of healthcare supplies in our retail store. HERO is open Monday through Friday 9am-5pm with flexible volunteer hours.

Cashier Volunteer

Jazzy & Mumbos a thrift store where the proceeds go to animal aid, is in need of individuals, families, or older adutls to help open the store, run the cash register, and keep the store neat and clean. This would be a long term opportunity.  Hours needed are from 9am-5pm. Flexible times and days are available.

Homework Club Tutor

St. Joseph’s School is in need of individuals, older adults and small groups (2-6) to answer student’s questions and help them with their homework after school. Volunteers are needed every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2:45pm-4:00pm.  Weekly volunteers desired.

Homelessness Education Conference Volunteer

FM Coalition Homeless Person’s is in need of individuals, older adults, and small groups (2-6) to help register participants, assist the keynote speaker, help set up food, greet and guide attendees.  This event will be held on November 12th and 13th, times vary depending on the volunteer opportunity.

Library Outreach Volunteer

Fargo Public Library is in need of bookworm volunteers to provide library materials and services to homebound individuals who are unable to come to the library.  By giving just a few hours twice a month to take library materials to book-crazy seniors, you can be someone’s hero!  Training will be provided and a commitment of 2 days per month is needed.

Dress for Success Clothing Specialist

REACH is in need of individuals to find proper attire for a woman who is seeking or has gained employment.  Flexible times are available.

Patient Care Volunteer

Hospice Red River Valley is in need of individuals to provide companionship, light housekeeping, friendly visiting, to reminisce, play cards, and share coffee with patients who are receiving hospice care. Times are flexible depending on patient needs and volunteer availability.

Meal Delivery Volunteers

Valley Senior Services is in need of volunteers to assist with Meals on Wheels Delivery in West Fargo. Volunteers deliver the meals to homebound elderly in our community. Meals are delivered for the noon meal Monday through Friday out of the West Fargo high-rise. It is about a one-hour time commitment each week.

 *Jingle Bell Run/Walk Volunteers

Arthritis Foundation is looking for individuals, older adults, small groups (2-6), and youth-minimum age of 16 years old-to volunteer at the Jingle Bell Run/Walk 5K on December 7th. The Jingle Bell Run/Walk is an annual event that raise awareness and funds for arthritis.  Volunteers are needed to help with registration, course monitors, refreshments, event set up/tear down and awards.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters Mentor

Big Brothers Big Sisters is in need of individuals to meet with a “Little Brothers/Sisters” every 1-2 weeks, doing a variety of activities that they choose together. Community-Based Big Brothers/Sisters meets with their Little Brothers/Sisters out in the community doing activities; School-Based Big Brothers/Sisters meets with their Little Brothers/Sisters one hour per week on-site at the Little’s School.  Days and times are flexible. School-Based Big Brothers/Sisters meets one hour per week during the school year at Madison Elementary School; Community-Based Big Brothers/Sisters meets 2-4 hours at least every other week.

*Youth Court Volunteer

Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota is looking for mature, responsible people between the ages of 13 and 18 years old to serve in the Youth Court. Youth Court is an alternative to formal court proceedings for youth who have been charged with an offense or are showing concerning behavior.  As a Youth Court volunteer you will participate as courtroom personnel in decisions that help your community.  You will have the opportunity to learn about the court system, gain valuable experience that can be used on college applications, serve as a positive role model, meet new friends and help your peers repair the harm that they have caused.  All volunteers must go through a 1 hour orientation prior to serving as a jury member on Youth Court and acquire 2 letters of recommendation from non-family members.  Youth Court hearings are held every Thursday (year-round) from 4:00pm-6:00pm at the Lutheran Social Services Program Center (4720 7th Ave S, Suite B). We ask that volunteers commit to attending 2 times a month but we are able to be flexible with your schedule on which dates you are able to participate.
