FirstLink’s 2-1-1 Helpline




2-1-1 is a national, free number that connects callers to information about health and human services. When someone dials 2-1-1 in North Dakota or Clay County, Minnesota they will be connected to FirstLink’s 2-1-1 Helpline. FirstLink’s trained call specialists provide help to callers in a variety of ways, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There will always be a call specialist there ready and willing to help when someone calls.

The helpline provides a number of services. The main service is information and referral. FirstLink has a database of almost 6,000 community resources and uses it to connect people with organizations that can help. When someone calls 2-1-1 and needs financial assistance, help finding affordable health care or counseling services, or is looking for a particular organization’s contact information, the call specialist is able to pull up the information to help that individual. The database consists of nonprofit organizations and human service agencies. FirstLink is able to link people with resources 24 hours a day.

Our call specialists are also trained in crisis intervention and offer listening and support. If anyone is struggling and needs someone to talk to, they can reach someone anytime a day at 2-1-1. Call specialists provide a non-judgmental listening ear to those that need to talk.  If you are struggling with anything in your daily life and need to talk, please dial 2-1-1. When you call 2-1-1, we ask you what city you are calling from for funding purposes and to help find resources in your area.

All of our call specialists are also trained in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and can provide suicide intervention. If you are ever struggling with thoughts of suicide, we encourage you to call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK(8255).

FirstLink’s 2-1-1 helpline is a great resource for anyone to be aware of. It is easy to remember, all a caller has to do is dial three digits: 2-1-1. If you are located in North Dakota or Clay County, Minnesota you will be connected to FirstLink. If your phone is from outside the coverage area, you will likely reach another 2-1-1 call center. FirstLink’s 2-1-1 Helpline can also accessed directly by dialing the local number (701) 235-7335.
